Caption Magic Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 2, 2026
Caption Magic is made by Tiny Toad, LLC. You do not need to create a Caption Magic account. To make captions and stories, the app handles photos you select, take, or paste and text you enter, such as names. Some of that content leaves your device for AI generation, as explained below. We do not use your photos or captions in the app's analytics events or pass them to the ad SDK.
Photos, editing, and History. Caption Magic accesses a photo you choose or takes a photo only when you use those features. It saves a selected, taken, or pasted image in the app's History as you begin working with it, along with later edits and related captions, stories, names, and styles on your device. Versions with the 200-item History limit replace the oldest item when a new one is saved. You can delete individual History items or clear them all. Local data may also be included in your device backups. Deleting History does not delete a copy you previously saved to Photos, shared with another app, or a copy already present in a backup. Magic Background editing in version 1.1.0 uses on-device image processing.
AI generation. The service used depends on the app version and device. Version 1.0.3 sends a resized copy of the selected image and generation text to Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service to create captions or stories. In version 1.1.0, eligible devices use Apple's Private Cloud Compute first. If Apple processing is unavailable or a recoverable failure prevents it from completing a request, Caption Magic may send a resized image and the relevant text through our Vercel-hosted service to OpenAI. Version 1.1.0 includes a Settings switch to turn off OpenAI fallback; generation may then be unavailable when Apple processing cannot run. We do not maintain a separate server-side library of your generation requests. Apple, Microsoft, Vercel, and OpenAI process request data to provide and protect their services under their own terms and policies. Retention may apply to some services; do not assume a request has zero retention.
Subscriptions. Apple handles payment. RevenueCat helps the app check Pro status, restore purchases, and present subscription offers. The app does not require your email address for this; RevenueCat uses a generated customer identifier and processes purchase history and related app/store information. We use Pro status to provide paid benefits, including removing the app's daily limits, export watermark, and in-app ads in versions that have them.
App analytics. We use TelemetryDeck to understand basic app use and improve reliability. It receives interaction event names, an installation-level identifier, and app/device metadata. Our app's explicit events do not include photos, prompts, names, captions, or stories. TelemetryDeck also sends its own session-start signal. See TelemetryDeck's privacy information.
Advertising in versions that include it. Free users may see an in-app promotion after an image is displayed; Pro users do not. Version 1.0.3 does not include these ads. Version 1.1.0 uses Kickstart Exchange for app-to-app promotions. Its SDK may send app and build details, storefront country, and app-level ad impressions or clicks, and may transiently process an Apple-signed App Transaction to verify a production install. Our app does not send your photo, caption, or story to Kickstart. Network providers also handle connection data needed to deliver requests. See Kickstart's privacy notice.
Sharing and saving. If you choose Save, the finished image is written to your Photos library with Apple's permission controls. If you choose Share, Apple's share sheet passes the selected image and, where applicable, story text to the destination you choose. The destination's privacy practices then apply.
Support. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use that correspondence to respond to your request.
Retention and choices. Local History remains until you delete it or the app's item limit replaces it. In versions with daily allowances, local quota counters reset by device calendar day. You can delete local History in the app, manage photo/camera permissions in iOS, and manage your subscription through Apple. In version 1.1.0 you can turn off OpenAI fallback in Settings. Clearing local data does not erase provider records created while fulfilling an earlier request. Contact us if you have a privacy question or want help with a request relating to the services we use.
Children. Caption Magic is intended for people age 13 or older. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through the app, contact us.
Changes and contact. We may update this policy when the app or its services change. We will post the revised effective date here. Contact Tiny Toad, LLC, 7100 SW 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97223, or email denis@tinytoad.games.
